Swedish Television’s Christmas Calendar 2020

SVT’s Christmas Calendar, an annual TV series for children and families, has been broadcasted since 1960 and has developed into an essential part of the contemporary Swedish Christmas tradition.

This year’s Christmas Calendar is called Miracle and revolves around two girls from different time periods who switch bodies. One travels 100 years back in time, and the other 100 years forward.

Miracle is directed by Calle Åstrand and written by Peter Arrhenius, Fredrik Agetoft and Sara Young.

In the cast one can find comedy stars Johan Glans and Babben Larsson. The girls Mira and Rakel will be portrayed by Sarah Rhodin and Bibi Lenhoff.

‘Hearts on the Line’ published in Sweden

New Author: Klas Ekman

Klas Ekman (b. 1975) is an author and journalist who has penned several lauded music biographies and worked at a number of Sweden’s largest magazines and newspapers. In addition to his writing, Ekman works as the editorial director of the prestigious Swedish publishing house Volante. Capable People is his debut novel.

The September bestseller list for children’s fiction in Norway

The latest title in Jørn Lier Horst & Hans Jørgen Sandnes’s Detective Agency No. 2 series, Operation Red Ribbon, is No. 2 on the official September bestseller list for children’s fiction in Norway. The duo also claims the No. 5 placement with the activity book The Search for the Last Dinosaur, which has now featured on the monthly bestseller lists for four consecutive months.

The weekly Norwegian bestseller lists

This weeks bestseller lists in Norway see Jørn Lier Horst’s recently published A Question of Guilt, the fourth and final installment in the Cold Case Quartet, land the No. 1 spot on the e-book list and the No. 3 spot in hardcover. He is joined by Jo Nesbø, who nabs the No. 4 spot in e-book and No. 5 spot in hardback with his stand-alone thriller The Kingdom.

The weekly Swedish bestseller lists

Hans Rosenfeldt’s When Crying Wolf claims two No. 1 spots on Sweden’s official bestseller list this week, nabbing both the top position on the hardcover fiction list as well as on the audiobook list. Jo Nesbø’s The Kingdom grabs the No. 2 spot on the e-book list and shows up at No. 4 on both the hardcover list and audio list. Niklas Natt och Dag’s 1794 climbs the paperback list, appearing at No. 3 this week, and Kristina Ohlsson’s children’s horror title The Haunted Mansion’s Secret land at No. 4 on the children’s list.

Four new ‘Beck’ films to premiere on C More

In 2020-2021 Beck films no. 39-42 will be released for streaming on C More. The story picks up right where the latest film Beck – The Devil’s Attorney left off. Peter Haber reprises his role as the iconic detective Martin Beck created by Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö, and his sidekick Steinar Hovland, is played again by Games of Thrones’ Kristofer Hivju.

Beck – Undercover will premiere November 6, followed by Beck – Beyond Reasonable Doubt on December 4. The two subsequent films will be released in 2021.

The new films are written by Fredrik Agetoft, Stefan Thunberg, Johan Bogaeus and Veronica Zacco. Pontus Klänge and Lisa Ohlin are directing.

‘Isola’ No. 1 in Denmark

Katrine Engberg’s just published Isola, the final installment in the bestselling series about police detectives Kørner & Werner, is No. 1 on all the major retailers’ bestseller lists for hardcover fiction in Denmark this week, as well as being the most listened to title of the week on Mofibo/Storytel, Denmark’s leading audiobook streaming platform.

Øystein Karlsen to adapt ‘The Whitstable Pearl Mystery’ novels

Acorn TV’s Acorn Media Enterprises, an AMC Networks company, has commissioned Buccaneer Media to produce a new British crime drama based on the The Whitstable Pearl Mystery novels by Julie Wassmer.

The six-part series Whitstable Pearl will be adapted by Øystein Karlsen. Kerry Godliman, the star of Ricky Gervais’ Netflix comedy After Life, has signed on to headline the show.

The series follows big-hearted local restaurant owner Pearl Nolan who sets up a local detective agency after undergoing police training in an earlier career. She is soon embroiled in her first case when she discovers the body of close friend, Vinnie. Pearl forms an unlikely partnership with DCI Mike McGuire, a new local police chief who has transferred from London to escape his past. And when a second body shows up, Pearl finds herself pulled into the dark underbelly of the picturesque town she calls home.

Whitstable Pearl will stream across North America, New Zealand, Australia, and the UK in 2021.

Top Dog the TV series is based on bestselling Swedish author Jens Lapidus’s books The VIP Room, Stockholm Delete and Top Dog.

Top Dog is directed by Alexis Almström and Molly Hartleb. The script is written by lead screenwriter Veronica Zacco together with others.

The anticipated thriller series will premiere October 7 on C More.
