A prequel video game based on directors Joe and Anthony Russo’s upcoming Netflix film The Electric State will launch a few days after the movie hits the streamer on March 14.

Set in the aftermath of a robot uprising in an alternate version of the ’90s, The Electric State follows orphaned teenager Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown) who ventures across the American West with cartoon-inspired robot Cosmo, low-rent smuggler Keats (Chris Pratt) and his wisecracking robot sidekick Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie) in search of her younger brother, Chris.

A prequel to The Electric State the mobile game The Electric State: Kid Cosmo is described as a “bite-sized adventure puzzle game” that focuses on Michelle and Chris. Per Netflix and the Russos’ media company AGBO, “This narrative-driven game takes place before the events of the movie and spans five years, blending gameplay with emotional storytelling to create an immersive experience.”

With just 10 days remaining until the highly anticipated The Electric State premieres on Netflix on March 14, the streaming platform has unveiled the final trailer.

Set in a retro-futuristic past, this blockbuster adventure from filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo, based on Simon Stålenhag’s narrative art book, follows Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown), an orphaned teenager who traverses the American West in search of her younger brother. Joining her on the journey is a sweet but mysterious robot and an eccentric drifter (Chris Pratt).

The film also stars Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Woody Norman, Giancarlo Esposito and Stanley Tucci. Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Hank Azaria, Colman Domingo and Alan Tudyk join the cast in voice roles.

Actor Simon Gregor Carlsson received his training at Fridhems Folkhögskola and Malmö Theatre Academy from which he graduated in 2022.

Carlsson portrays one of the leads in the hailed TV drama The Pirate Bay (2024), which follows the three young Swedish men who created one of the world’s largest file-sharing websites, and changed the whole entertainment industry.

Carlsson also stars in the upcoming feature film Let it Rain which will see its premiere in 2025. Let it Rain is based on Jonas Karlsson’s novel Regnmannen, where Robert Gustafsson plays the lead role.

Furthermore, Carlsson has performed in several acclaimed theatre plays including Brinn at Unga Klara and Alice i Spegellandet at Torpa Slottsteater which he also directed. In 2023 Carlsson’s short film Pseudonym, which he both co-created and acted in, was selected for screening at the prestigious Gothenburg Film Festival.

With the premiere of The Electric State approaching, Netflix has unveiled a new poster for the Russo brothers’ adaptation of Simon Stålenhag‘s narrative art book.

The Electric State follows a young woman (played by Millie Bobby Brown) who embarks on a perilous journey across the American West in search for her younger brother. Along the way, she is joined by a mysterious toy robot and the roguish smuggler Keats (Chris Pratt). Together, they’ll unravel a mechanical conspiracy at the center of the American heartland.

The highly anticipated movie premieres exclusively on Netflix on March 14 2025.

Andrzej Tichý‘s Book of Events is nominated for the 2025 Nordic Council Literature Prize. This is his fourth nomination for the prize.

The jury says about the Book of Events:

“Andrzej Tichý has always stood on the side of the marginalized and the vulnerable, on the side of children. With Book of Events, he moves them and their stories right into the center. The language is uncompromising – sometimes bordering on rage – and without tiring, it constantly directs the reader’s attention towards the working class, racism, and the hierarchies in society. Instead of a dramaturgical curve and a clear sequence of events, Book of Events offers the reader a myriad of voices, some named, some anonymous, some historical, some fictional, all illustrating a broken time, whose main characteristic is its failed humanity.”

The winner will be announced on October 21.

Netflix’s motion picture sci-fi comedy The Electric State, based on Simon Stålenhag‘s narrative art book, premiered at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles on Monday, February 24, 2025. 

The star-studded cast, consisting of Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt in the leading roles, attended, as well as co-stars Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, Woody Norman, Giancarlo Esposito, Jason Alexander, and Marin Hinkle. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo were also present, as was Simon Stålenhag himself.

The movie premieres exclusively on Netflix on March 14 2025.

Today, Netflix revealed the launch date and first look images for the upcoming Finnish film Little Siberia based on the bestselling novel with the same name. Written by author Antti Tuomainen, the book has previously been selected as one of The Times’ “Book of the Year”.

The everyday life of the small village of Hurmevaara is shaken when a meteorite falls through the roof of a car one night. According to the town’s mayor, the meteorite is very valuable for the future of the slowly dying village. Joel, the village priest, and a veteran peacekeeper, ends up guarding the meteorite in an old museum before it is sent to London for a more detailed evaluation. But a precious meteorite gets a lot of attention… While Joel protects the meteorite from both amateur and professional criminals, he tries to unravel an even greater mystery surrounding his own life. Joel’s wife has recently revealed that she, finally, is pregnant. Great news, but unfortunately, Joel is unable to have children due to his war injury. He just hasn’t told his wife…

Little Siberia is directed by Dome Karukoski and stars Eero Ritala, Malla Malmivaara, Martti Suosalo and Tommi Korpela in the leading roles. The film is produced by Ina Sohlberg for SF Studios and Mark Lwoff and Misha Jaari for Bufo.

The movie is the first Finnish feature film on Netflix and will launch globally on March 21, 2025.

The Academy of the Nine has elected Andrzej Tichý as the recipient of this year’s Karl Vennberg Prize. The Academy was founded in 1913 and its purpose is to promote Swedish literature.
