Kvitebjørn The Polar Bear Prince
Stand-alone Children's books #
The adventurous girl Liv and her family live in a parched kingdom, ruled by a greedy and unhappy queen. One day, Liv meets a mysterious white bear in the forest and soon learns that he’s been cursed by the queen. Together, they travel to his kingdom in the mountain, but the queen’s evil spell is closing in on them. Now Liv must stand up and fight for what she believes in, for everyone she loves, and for the world.
The Polar Bear Prince is an epic, spellbinding graphic novel with illustrations by Hans Jørgen Sandnes, telling a tale of greed, hate, friendship and love, based on a Norwegian folktale in the same tradition as Beauty and the Beast.
Reviews
-
“The Polar Bear Prince explores classic fairy-tale themes such as revenge and love, and how, despite evil and cruelty, there is hope for most people. Illustrator Hans Jørgen Sandnes has drawn the bear particularly well and uses a rich palette – lush greens and blues as well as somber reds – to convey the mood and the characters’ emotions.”
-
“The spreads depicting the beautiful Norwegian nature are marvels in the book’s large format.”
-
“Already on the first page I am spellbound (…) Hans Jørgen Sandnes has had to juggle between the grand and spectacular and the intimate and delicate. My impression is that he has created something truly exceptional, one that can also evoke certain associations with the Walt Disney universe.”
