‘Britt-Marie Was Here’ to be made into a feature film with Pernilla August as the lead
SF Studios, the production company behind the film adaptation of A Man Called Ove, is making a feature film based on Britt-Marie Was Here, Fredrik Backman’s beloved novel about a woman who’s waited her entire life for life to begin. Pernilla August (Star Wars) will play the lead role of Britt-Marie and Tuva Novotny will direct.
-It’s going to be amazingly fun to direct this moving and uplifting feel-good drama, says Tuva Novotny.
Just like in the popular and touching novel, the film will tell the story of 63-year-old Britt-Marie, who is suddenly ejected from her comfortable world and forced to start over again, all on her own.
-She’s a timid, scared, shut-off and very insecure person who suddenly exits a marriage – and finds herself. Suddenly this frail little person dares to let herself be invited up on the dancefloor – her development is so darn beautiful it makes me shiver, says Pernilla August.
The film shooting will start in the beginning of April in Västra Götaland, on the western coast of Sweden. The casting process for the film’s other roles is currently in full swing.
