Jakob The Shadow of the Northern Lights
Hildur #3
As Christmas comes to the west coast of Iceland, a corpse is found in a fish farming pond. Detective Hildur Rúnarsdóttir and trainee Jakob Johanson barely have time to start their investigation before another body is discovered. And soon after, a third.
While investigating the case, Hildur’s lost sisters weighs heavily on her mind. Meanwhile, Jakob travels to Finland for the hearing of his fraught custody battle, that leaves him facing dire consequences. As the number of deaths continues to grow, Hildur and Jakob are desperate to catch the killer before they strike again.
Reviews
-
“Rämö is brilliant at creating atmosphere, vividly describing sudden changes in the weather in this coldest part of Iceland. She is a keen student of Icelandic culture and folklore, and her intimate knowledge of the rural economy has inspired a plot that must be unique in crime fiction. This is Nordic noir at its most original, based in an icy wilderness that’s almost otherworldly in its unfamiliarity.”
-
“The quality stays consistently high /…/ seamlessly weaving multiple plotlines without ever letting them blur.”
-
“Jakob lives up to every expectation.”
-
“A carefully constructed storyline, Rämö keeps the reader tightly in her grip, revealing clues little by little about the strange events unfolding. The epilogue, following the conclusion, crowns the work with ruthlessness.”
-
“A gripping, fast-paced crime novel that earns a full ten /…/ Rämö delivers precisely what readers have been waiting for.”
