Screenwriter Maja Winkler graduated from the prestigious Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2015. Following her graduation, she has worked with the majority of the leading production companies in Scandinavia. Winkler has a soft spot for melodrama, but loves exploring genres in general, whether they are thriller or dramedy.
Winkler was dramaturge and script consultant for Gösta (2019), the first original Swedish HBO-series, and worked closely with top director Lukas Moodysson. Gösta premiered in July 2019, receiving great praise in the Swedish press, where it was among else described as “a headstrong winner,” “utterly lovely,” and “fascinatingly entertaining.”
At the moment, Winkler is working on the feature film The Idiot together with Måns Herngren, for which they are both writers and directors.
Jo Nesbø’s just published Knife nabs an impressive three No. 1 spots on the official Swedish bestseller lists for week 26 (June 24th-30th). The novel is No. 1 in hardcover, e-book and audio. Fredrik Backman likewise features on the hardcover list, coming in at No. 5 with Anxious People.
The official monthly bestseller lists for June see Jo Nesbø appear on three lists with the just published twelfth Harry Hole novel, Knife. He is No. 3 in e-book and No. 4 on both the hardcover and audio lists. Kristina Ohlsson’s new Martin Benner title, To Him Who Knocks, comes in just after on the hardcover list, placing No. 5. Fredrik Backman’s stand-alone Anxious People claims the No. 5 spot on the e-book category’s list.
Liza Marklund’s stand-alone Black Pearl Farm is No. 1 on the official Icelandic bestseller list. Following closely behind at No. 2 is Stefan Ahnhem’s Motive X, the fourth Fabian Risk novel.
June’s official bestseller lists in Norway have Jo Nesbø appear at the top of the hardcover one, claiming the No. 1 spot with Knife. Nesbø also makes an appearance at No. 5 on the paperback list with Macbeth. Returning to the hardcover category, the last position in the top 5 goes to Jørn Lier Horst & Hans Jørgen Sandnes’ The Search for the Magician’s Tome.
Jørn Lier Horst features also on the paperback list, coming in at No. 1 with The Cabin. Lars Kepler’s Lazarus is No. 2 in the same category.
Jørn Lier Horst & Hans Jørgen Sandndes are No. 1 on the official June bestseller list for children’s books in Norway. The Search for the Magician’s Tome tops the list this month, and is closely followed by Operation Sable Forest at No. 3.
Week 25’s (June 17-23) Swedish bestseller list for e-books sees Fredrik Backman make yet another appearance with Anxious People, which comes in at No. 5.
Jo Nesbø’s Knife is No. 1 on the hardcover list also this week, claiming the No. 1 spot on the e-book list too. Nesbø makes an appearance on the paperback list as well, where his Macbeth is No. 5. Jørn Lier Horst similarly lays claim to multiple spots on the weekly lists, starting with No. 4 on the hardcover one, where Horst & Hans Jørgen Sandnes’ feature with their latest activity book in the Detective Agency No. 2 series: The Search for the Magician’s Tome. Smoke Screen, the just published second installment in Jørn Lier Horst & Thomas Enger’s Blix & Ramm series, is No. 2 in e-book. Lastly, Horst’s The Cabin is No. 3 on the paperback list. It is joined by another long-term bestseller, Lars Kepler’s Lazarus, which is No. 2 on the same list.
The New York Times Book Review has selected Matias Faldbakken’s The Hills as one of six titles on this week’s Paperback Row, a feature which lists the newspaper’s recommendations of new paperbacks to check out.
