Ulvestuen The Wolf’s Den
Anton Brekke #11
During a ride with Magnus Torp, Anton Brekke spots a man he arrested years ago for murder. He shares with Torp the story of the case involving 22-year-old student Susanne Leander, who was found brutally murdered.
It’s 2002. Anton is new to Kripos and travels to Kristiansand with his mentor, Harald Uteng. As the investigation unfolds, a portrait of Susanne emerges — a young woman from a strict Christian upbringing who led a secret double life.
Alongside the case, we are introduced to Selma Gressmo, a single mother raising her five-year-old daughter, Julie. Together, they cross paths with a charming man who works at the local Zoo and possesses a deep knowledge of wolves.
Meanwhile, the young Anton struggles with a crisis in his marriage to Elisabeth, who is heavily pregnant, all while trying to solve the most challenging case of his career.
This is Jan-Erik Fjell’s eleventh novel featuring Anton Brekke.

“Do you get goosebumps easily? Then Fjell’s new book is not for you! If I were to sum up the mood of the book in one word, it would be chilling. But if you decide to dive in anyway, which I think you should, you’ll find a fresh twist on the story of the Kripos investigator. What sets book number eleven apart from the earlier ones, especially for those of us who’ve followed since the beginning, is that we now get to know Anton Brekke in a different way. (…) And this is where Fjell is truly at his best. He has always created compelling characters, awakened the Fredrikstad patriot in all of us, and maintained tension throughout all eleven books. This time, however, the characters step out of the pages in a whole new way. They feel closer, clearer, and they get under our skin right from the start. I’d say he’s created perfect candidates for a TV series about what feels like real people’s lives. (…) Fjell makes it genuinely hard to figure out who’s guilty — and that’s wonderfully refreshing. /…/ The Wolf’s Den flows effortlessly. And yet, not effortlessly at all. There’s energy, rhythm, and drive. It’s easy to follow even though a lot is happening, but not always easy to fully grasp everything that’s going on. As a reader, I feel that Fjelltruly takes me seriously. He gives me fascinating characters, manages to scare me, and doesn’t let me be smarter than Anton Brekke. It’s the ultimate Kinder egg for readers. So I’ll say it again: I’m already looking forward to book number twelve. ”
