Sagan om Frejo: Norrskenet The Tale of Frejo: The Northern Lights
The Tale of Frejo #1
In the big northern mountain realm, the arctic foxes live in freedom and harmony, led by the wise and respected white fox, Fale. But their peaceful life comes to a brutal end when Fale’s youngest son, Frejo, one night witnesses a strange red aurora overtaking the starry sky. It is a sign of dark times ahead, and when Fale sets off the next morning to meet the leader of the red foxes for a negotiation for the land and food assets, Frejo realizes that something terrible is about to happen.
Frejo is neither the strongest nor the bravest of the young arctic foxes. He feels safest at home with his best friend Ruut, far from the dangers that lurk beyond their hill. But when his father disappears, he is forced onto a dangerous journey with his older, bolder siblings, Jåkk and Viddja, a journey that proves long and full of doubts. Is the mysterious snowy owl Helvi a friend or foe? Can the talkative lemming Pikko be trusted? What is that shadow that follows them? Will they make it in time?
To save his father, and the future of the arctic foxes, Frejo must find the courage within himself. But will he dare to become who he is meant to be before it’s too late?
The Northern Lights is the first installment in The Tale of Frejo, with vibrant illustrations by Johan Leion and packed with action and cliffhangers that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Reviews

“The language is deliberate, and the metaphors are adapted to the mountain landscape, which enhances the reader’s sense of immersion. The theme sheds light on the difficulties of being born into a group where one does not quite fit in, yet is still expected to behave in a certain way. Johan Leion’s illustrations have a dreamlike quality and reinforce the text with magnificent landscapes and distinctive portraits (…). The tension builds, the intensity rises, only to end abruptly with a big cliff hanger in the midst of an escape. The book isn’t a standalone story, and children will be left eager for the sequel.”
