Ran Ran
The Ran Trilogy #1
Decades of war, famine, and environmental destruction have pushed the world to the brink to collapse. The only country that still thrives is Svealand, where people live in harmony and the nature has been restored. But only because the boarders are closed, democracy is gone and the people are under constant surveillance.
Society is divided into white-, yellow-, orange-, and red-ringed. To climb the ranks, you have to be the perfect citizen. Ran is an 18 year old girl living in Stockholm. She’s just been marked red-ringed after her father committed an unforgivable crime. Now all she can think about is to win back her family’s status, rise to orange-ringed, and get her old life back.
But when her brother Loge is suddenly taken as punishment for their father’s crime, Ran’s world falls apart. She soon begins to realize that the world as she knows it, is built on lies, and that she may be the only one who can uncover the truth. Alone, hunted, and desperate, Ran sets out across Svealand to save her brother and the freedom of her people – before it’s too late.
Ran is the first installment in a three-part series by Estrid Klint – a gripping dystopian adventure and a story of hope in a world with no easy answers.
Reviews
-
“Reading Ran, I find exactly what I’m looking for in a great dystopia: darkness, excitement, and an engaging story (…). The world-building well thought-out and believable, and I really like how the author weaves in strands of social criticism. The characters are interesting and multifaceted. I was really hooked by Ran. She is brave and has a strong will.”
-
“Once again, I feel like I’ve just been punched in the face by a book! I mean wow! How great! And I’m not even a fan of dystopian sci-fi stories. I’m already looking forward to the next book.”
-
“The language is easy, flexible, and the entire book is incredibly well-written. The pages fly by, and I think the author has done a great job of portraying and painting a picture that feels very real. I follow Ran and her struggle against lies and injustice with bated breath. It’s a chilling story with a many twists and scenes that make your skin crawl with unease. When I close the book, I wish I had the next part with me. I want to know what happens next!”

“An exciting and captivating story.”

“I think the plot is really exciting, and it becomes even more so since it takes place in Sweden, or Svealand as it’s called. The only downside is that it was just released, so the wait for the next part will be long! I’m really looking forward to it!”

“Ran is an important and well-thought-out book, and it’s clear that the author has poured time, soul, and mind into writing it. This is reading that gives you the chills and also celebrates female bravery.”

“Rating 5/5. You must read this one, it’s a true page-turner! It’s actually a young adult novel, but it’s just as thrilling for adults. Read, read, read!”
-
“Reading this feels like standing in a cross breeze. It’s pure action from start to finish. It depicts a future Sweden where the poor residents cower under a tyrannical regime inspired by Old Norse mythology. It’s incredibly exciting!”

“The fading young adult genre gets a serious shot of vitamin when Estrid Klint (a pseudonym said to conceal a bestselling Swedish author) hits hard with this fall’s most intense action novel. It is set in a future Sweden where a deeply segregated, chip-controlled population cowers under a terror regime inspired by Old Norse mythology. Eighteen-year-old rebel Ran, desperately trying to save her kidnapped brother, is declared an outlaw and hunted across the country. The story also contains some hopeful touches, such as the fact that anyone telling Bellman jokes is promptly deprived of their freedom.”

“Wow, wow, wow – what a great book! Ran by Estrid Klint is a dystopian page-turner that completely captivated me from the first page and didn’t let go until the very last word. /…/ What makes Ran so impressive is how well it balances tension, emotion, and social criticism. Klint has created a world that feels both frighteningly realistic and entirely unique. The language is sharp, fluid, and full of energy, and the characters feel vivid and complex. You can’t help but love Ran. This is a book I wanted to devour, yet at the same time prolong, just to stay in that world a little longer. It’s rare for a dystopia to feel this original today, but Ran succeeds in every way: it’s unpredictable, intelligent, and emotionally engaging.
The ending is also one of the most nerve-wracking I’ve read in a long time, and I simply must find out what happens next. Estrid Klint, whoever you are, you’ve created something truly special.”
