Maria Nohra grew up in Vänersborg and moved to Stockholm to explore a career in acting. Though her background is in dancing, her goal has always been acting so she shifted focus and began her theatre training at Stockholms Elementära Teaterskola (SET). Upon graduating, she created her first theatre play, Min mammas dotter, a humorous and emotionally charged monologue based on her own childhood, growing up with a Lebanese mother who broke all the norms. Min mammas dotter received great praise, went on to tour over the whole country and Nohra herself has performed the play over 100 times.
Nohra has also appeared in many successful Swedish TV series, including Heder (2019-2022) in which she appeared as the character Leyla for three seasons; the 2019 Swedish Christmas Calendar Panic in Santa’s Workshop in which she portrayed the reporter; and in the lauded SVT series Sjukt (2021), in which she played Shantana.
Furthermore, Nohra has extensive experience in radio, where she hosted one of Sweden’s most popular radio shows Morgonpasset i P3, between 2017-2020. During her time at Morgonpasset she interviewed some of the most prominent personalities in Sweden, ranging from politicians, musicians and scientists.
Nohra speaks several languages, having learned them at an early age thanks to her Lebanese family, in which they speak Swedish, Arabic, English and French. Another great interest of Nohra’s is boxing, at age 15 she was crowned Swedish champion.
2023 will see the premiere of the anticipated Viaplay TV series Ronja the Robber’s Daughter, based on Astrid Lindgren’s classic story and screenplay written by Hans Rosenfeldt, in which Nohra will portray Undis.
