Karin Fahlén

Karin Fahlén (b. 1961) studied at Cambridge and at the Swedish Dramatic Institute in Stockholm, and has more than 30 years of experience in film, TV, radio and theatre. When she took her place in the director’s chair she did so with immediate acclaim, swiftly gaining recognition for the great ease with which she moves between drama, crime, and comedy.

Fahlén’s first feature film Stockholm Stories, a contemporary and humorous multi plot drama, had its world premiere at the Chicago International Film Festival in 2013. The film, which is based on Jonas Karlsson’s The Second Goal, was well received at various film festivals around the world and garnered fantastic reviews, earning Fahlén the Swedish Television’s New Filmmaker of the Year Award.

The year 2017 marked the theatrical release of Fahlén’s latest feature film All Inclusive, a charismatic and sparkling comedy about an eventful vacation to Croatia. The film drew a noteworthy percentage of the Swedish population to the theatres and became the second most seen Swedish film of the year.

Fahlén is also the conceptual director of last year’s major crime series production from CMore/TV4: STHLM Requiem. The stylish and hair-raising series, based on Kristina Ohlsson’s novels, premiered in October 2018.

‘Stockholm Requiem’ praised in UK press

Stockholm Requiem, directed by Karin Fahlén and based on Kristina Ohlsson’s best-selling Fredrika Bergman novels, has caught the eye of the British press, among else Entertainment Focus which calls the series “spectacular” and “fabulous”. The publication adds that “Crime-drama of this quality doesn’t come along that often. Definitely one to watch.”

The 10-episode crime drama series was acquired by Walter Presents for the UK and Australia, and premiered on UK Channel Four on January 26.
