Aliette Opheim

Aliette Opheim (b. 1985), a Swedish actor with extensive international experience, is one of Sweden’s most sought-after actors.

Opheim made her big screen debut at just 16 years old, having auditioned at her school for the lead role of Ida in the successful youth drama Sandor slash Ida (2005). In 2012, she decided to pursue acting full-time and applied to the renowned Gothenburg Academy of Music and Drama, from which she graduated in 2015. That same year she received the prestigious Rising Star Award for her outstanding performances.

In 2014, Opheim starred in the acclaimed The Fat and the Angry, directed by Johan Renck and written by Oskar Söderlund. The two-part drama thriller received great reviews and was among else awarded at the Seoul International Drama Awards and the C21 International Drama Awards.

2015 saw the premiere of the Amazon series Patriot, wherein Opheim made her English language debut in the role as Detective Agathe Albans, shooting in both the US and in France. The comedy-drama series ran for two seasons and received wonderful reviews.

Opheim’s most recent roles in Swedish productions include ones in the hit series Caliphate (2020) and Beartown (2020). In the acclaimed and daring Caliphate, directed by Goran Kapetanovic, she plays the lead role of the security service agent Fatima, and was praised for her strong performance. In the lauded HBO series Beartown, directed by Peter Grönlund, she stars as the mother, wife and successful lawyer Mira. The chilling drama has received outstanding reviews both in Sweden and internationally.

November 2021 marked the release of the lauded The Congregation, in which she plays the role of the Bride of Christ. Opheim’s impressive and wicked portrayal has been met with high praise from critics.

‘The Dark Heart’ selected for Sundance Film Festival

It has now been announced that The Dark Heart will celebrate its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the Indie Episodic section.

The star-studded cast has also been released. Aliette Opheim will portray Therese Tang, a missing people volunteer who becomes obsessed with a case and puts her own life on the line in search of the truth. In the cast we also find Gustav Lindh, Clara Christiansson Drake and Peter Andersson.

The first photos of Aliette Opheim in ‘The Congregation’

C More has released the first photos of Aliette Opheim in her role as the Bride of Christ in the anticipated TV series The Congregation.

The six-part drama is based on the novel of the same title (orig. title: Knutby) by Jonas Bonnier. Bonnier also serves as screenwriter on the series, accompanied by head writer Fredrik Agetoft and episode writer Anna Platt.

The Congregation is set to premiere on C More November 1 and then on TV 4 November 11.

Aliette Opheim to star in upcoming Netflix series ‘Katla’

Aliette Opheim will appear in Netflix’s upcoming Icelandic drama series Katla, set to premiere this June 17. Directing the series is Baltasar Kormákur.

Katla: One year after the violent eruption of the subglacial volcano Katla, the peace and tranquility in the small town of Vik has been dramatically disturbed. As people evacuate the area, mysterious elements that have been deeply frozen into the glacier from prehistoric times, start to emerge from the melting ice and cause consequences no one could ever foresee.

‘The Congregation’ to become a TV series

Jonas Bonnier’s The Congregation, a novel inspired by the real-life story of the Knutby sect, will be made into a six-episode TV series for TV4 and C More. Shooting is slated to start this summer. Head writer for the series is Fredrik Agetoft, who is joined by episode writer Anna Platt and the novel’s author and now screenwriter, Jonas Bonnier.

The drama TV series will depict the fateful events of Knutby, 2004, when a free church in small-town Sweden became the epicenter of a murder plot that shook the country. Playing the role of the figure at the plot’s center, Kristi Brud – “Eva” in the series – is Aliette Opheim (Caliphate, Beartown). The pastor arrested for brainwashing his lover into killing will be played by Einar Bredefeldt (Beartown), and the nanny by Alba August (Quick). The director of the series is Goran Kapetanoviç (Caliphate).
